I have several VPS from MiniVps before Astutium took over.

Since the move to their datacenter last year there have been some differences:

Bad:

  • The price now has VAT so is 25% more
  • IP address changed on takeover

Good:

  • No downtime
  • Route to the IP is now 4 hops less
  • FTP is much faster
  • Wordpress is quicker according to Google

I had been worried the changeover would mean MiniVPS went downhill but so far worth the extra £5.60 a month

These clowns took over MiniVPS.

They threw the prices up sky high, took my service down nearly a month early and now badger me for a small fortune for a service I cancelled. Disgusting.

Refused to take an email from a director of the company as a cancellation request. And generally don't give a crap about anything but their money - even when they're breaking the law.

Their system doesn't allow cancellations for a service that has an invoice pending either, which is very naughty.

Trading Standards will be having a chat with these people very shortly.

My host was just acquired by astutium.com last year and all my domains got moved over with no downtime. Been getting automated renewal notices and pricing is almost half what I paid before.

Came to Astutium as they acquired SimplBeHosted.. The migration appeared to be seamless. Just logged my first support ticket with Astutium and was dealt with very quickly and efficiently. 

Have recently been trialling a test website using Wordpress, and can say that their cPanel works without issues.

I was with SimplyBeHosted for 14 years but SimplyBeHosted was absorbed by Astutium a short while back. Really sad indeed as I recently had no choice but to cancel my paid for package and move my domains away from Astutium as problems with elements of their service and their support had become unresolvable. Wasn't even offered a compensatory or good will refund for the remaining six months of my one year fee paid in advance. Being a long term customer of SimplyBeHosted who brought a number of customers in over the years didn't seem to count for much a the end of the day.

Sadly I feel somewhat aggrieved as the person dealing with my support queries had a very unhelpful and disagreeable manner to say the least. A case of exceptionally poor people skills and an apparent disregard for customers in general, this is in my personal opinion of course. I am biting my tougue here, so I'll move on.

Furthermore, the existing package specs were changed without any notifcation of changes...the specs of my package were reduced; disk space was halved from 500MB to 250MB for example. To say this was a significant decrease would be an understatement. And prices increased without any notification or explanation from Astutium as well. Incredible way to run a business! After I had noticed these changes I contacted Astutium via support and was given a load of spiel, but when I challenged the rationalisation the gloves went on and I was told that I signed up for the new package...so clearly it was my own fault for renewing. Terrific approach don't you think? Except my package auto-renewed without any hint or indication that these changes had been made so I unwittingly paid for a reduced spec package and paid more money for it t'boot...very, very underhand.

Completely unacceptable practices in the real world. Having had a relatively unproblematic time for well over a decade now (there were occassional blips here and there of course but they were resolved quickly and without rudeness or fuss) I have been taken aback by my recent experiences.

Given the recent experiences with Astutium I could not recommend them. I say this not out of spite but because I believe it is reasonable to share with others such experiences so they can evaluate fully for themselves before making any decisions. It's of course possible that I'm one unhappy person out of the happy hundreds. Who knows?

Appalling takover from simplybehosted.

Deleted my address book, scripts stopped working, and support replies were unhelpful. They presumably don't care, so I fear I shall have to move all my domains.

Astutium helped me move over my domains from 123-reg to their system - and I now get better service and cheaper domains !

Support has been very good with my questions (never knew what an EPP was before). Highly recommended !
