Our company had their domains through Network Solutions, so to bring them up to the 21st century in pricing and support, we moved to NameCheap. I had good experiences with NameCheap on my personal domains, so I figured it was a good idea, and their support of the EFF was also a plus.
...how wrong I was. Only a few weeks after I started the move of our domains, on January 1st (New Years Day) they shut down a swath of our domains (~75 or so). I got called, and found out that NameCheap decided to shut down our domains without ANY COMMUNICATION TO US. The first problem is they have ZERO phone support. So I opened a ticket, and got a response that the support rep could not assist me, because the domains were shut down by the legal department due to "phishing". Our legitimate business now had to PROVE that we were legitimately using OUR domains! After a few hours of back-and-forth with the legal department via the ticketing system, they restored our domains, with the exception of five of our busiest domains. They said that they would NOT turn them back on, until we got some letter from our customer. Seriously?!? ON A HOLIDAY WEEKEND?!?! After pleading with them all weekend, they finally turned them back on, TEMPORARILY, and told us we had five days to get them the letter or they would shut them back off. Keep in mind - these sites were all secured with certificates, and the customer is the largest in their field in the country they are in. So, we had to get this huge behemoth of a customer to get their legal department up to speed in three days, and have them issue a letter to NameCheap.
After days of pulling our hair out, and trying to get our customer to understand what we were actually trying to get (which we were not actually 100% sure either), and trying to figure out which division in the customer's company should handle this, NameCheap finally gave in. I'm still not sure why. Maybe the customer contacted them by some other means. Either way, needless to say, we IMMEDIATELY decided to start transferring our domains back out, and STOP transferring domains in to NameCheap.
I then found NameSilo. They had good prices, and they have a policy that cares about their customers, unlike NameCheap. NameSilo now has all of our domains, and we couldn't be happier with their service, site, API, etc. I even moved my 20 personal domains over, just because I didn't want the hassle with my domains in the future (and they are cheaper, and have a better UI, and API, etc.).
NameCheap should be ashamed. Especially when they tout their giving to the EFF, who is against trolls that do the very thing that NameCheap did to us.
Don't make the same mistake we did.
